I’m Queenie Tong, a New York–licensed architect and the owner of Tong Dong Architects, founded in 2021 in Queens, New York in the midst of the global pandemic. That timing shaped the heart of my practice. When the world got smaller, home became everything, and it made the impact of air quality, materials, light, and daily routines impossible to ignore. Since then, my work has focused on helping families create spaces that support real wellness, not just a fresh look.

I earned my Master of Architecture from Columbia University (2005) and built my career over 16 years at internationally recognized firms including Office for Metropolitan Architecture (Asia), Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, Gensler, and Ogawa Depardon Architects. Today, I bring that high-end, large-firm rigor into a more personal studio, guiding clients through modern residential architecture and renovation with clear steps, smart priorities, and design decisions that hold up over time.

My work is rooted in a simple promise: clarity first. Renovations can feel overwhelming because there are so many moving parts, especially in New York City. I help you understand the sequence, assemble the right team, and make the choices that matter most, from layout and storage to ventilation and healthier material selections. My “why” became personal after I became a mom. I started paying closer attention to what surrounds us every day, what we breathe, touch, and live with, and how much our environment affects kids.

 

Outside of architecture, I’ve studied dance since I was five, and it still shapes how I think about space: movement, rhythm, balance, and how a home can support the way you actually live.
