The Healthy Home Readiness Assessment

You want a healthier home. But do you know which decisions actually make one?

Creating a healthy home goes far beyond choosing a few “non-toxic” materials.

The way your home manages fresh air, moisture, daylight, temperature, sound, materials, and building systems all affect how healthy, comfortable, and resilient it can be.

Are you ready to create a healthier home for you and your family?

Answer 15 simple questions to discover how well your current approach aligns with healthy-home best practices—and where you may have important gaps to address before you renovate or build.

It takes about 3 minutes, and your personalized results are immediate.

What will you learn?

This assessment is designed to help you understand how prepared you are to make the decisions that shape a healthier home.

In just a few minutes, you'll discover how well you're currently thinking about:

Healthier Materials

Learn whether you're looking beyond labels and marketing claims to consider how materials affect indoor air quality, durability, moisture, and long-term health.

Building Systems

Understand why ventilation, moisture management, insulation, filtration, and the building envelope can matter just as much as the finishes you see.

Comfort + Well-Being

See how daylight, temperature, acoustics, air quality, and layout work together to influence how your home feels every day.

Better Decisions

Identify the areas where you may need more information before making expensive choices that can become difficult to change later.

A Healthier Home for Your Family

Gain a clearer picture of what deserves your attention so you can invest in the decisions that have the greatest long-term impact.

A healthy home is a system.

Many homeowners begin by focusing on finishes, appliances, or individual products.

But healthy homes are created through a series of interconnected decisions.

Air quality affects ventilation.

Ventilation affects comfort.

Moisture affects materials and durability.

Windows affect daylight, energy use, and temperature.

The building envelope influences almost everything happening inside the home.

The earlier these decisions are considered together, the more opportunities you have to create a home that supports your health, comfort, and everyday life.

Why I created this assessment

I'm Queenie, a New York State Registered Architect with more than 18 years of experience in architecture and residential design.

Through my work at Tong Dong Architects, I help homeowners think beyond how a home looks and consider how architecture can support the people living inside it.

I created the Healthy Home Readiness Assessment because homeowners are often asked to make hundreds of decisions during a renovation or new build—without always knowing which decisions will have the greatest impact.

My goal is to help you understand what matters earlier, so you can ask better questions, make more informed choices, and create a home designed for long-term health, comfort, and well-being.

Why your home matters to your health?

The relationship between our homes and our well-being is more significant than many homeowners realize.

3 STRATEGIES
source control · ventilation · filtration

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Americans spend approximately 90% of their time indoors—and concentrations of some pollutants are often 2 to 5 times higher indoors than outdoors.

Building materials, cabinetry, furnishings, adhesives, paints, and coatings can introduce volatile organic compounds and other pollutants into indoor air. EPA research has found levels of several common organic pollutants averaging 2 to 5 times higher indoors than outdoors.

The EPA identifies source control, ventilation, and filtration as three fundamental strategies for improving indoor air quality—and notes that reducing pollution at its source is usually the most effective place to begin.
